The dark side and back

I wasn't sure where to post this but I haven't heard back from Wayne.
I caught three of the largest small mouth bass ever this past weekend at lake Powell. Caught in Halls creek and all three had this mark on the right side and down the back. All three were full of Crawdad's and fat. Help with information please. Cup

I am not sure what that is and have not seen it before. Does this look familiar to anyone? I will check it out.

Probably a genetic defect that was transferred into the fry. Sq

Is this how it looked when caught? I've had similar things happen to Smallies (discoloration) when they die or sit in the live well. Was that part of the Smallmouth resting against other dead fish in the live well or something?

This is how.they were caught and looked as they come out of the water., and much bigger than the average Smb we caught over the three days. Still alive when pulled out of the live well.
We filleted right away.
