I had had enough distancing and TV so I made a trip to Lake Powell. I drove most of the way from Sanpete Friday and got to the parking lot about 8 Saturday morning. The ramp and the road to Stanton Canyon were blocked. I parked in the parking lot with one other pickup. There were three groups at Hobie Cat Beach sitting in the sun and fishing a bit. I managed to catch a couple SMB near the old ferry dock. Fished for about and then hiked to Stanton Canyon and fished from shore. There were quite a few LMB cruising the shoreline and I saw a few nests but only coaxed one strike from a nest. I fished mostly drop shotting using 4-inch Yamamoto Shad shaped worms; green pumpkin with black flecks and baby bass. Got a couple bites with a Ned rig but missed them. For the day, I caught 7 LMB and 7SMB. The largest was a 3 pound SMB. I saw a massive LMB. i’m guessing it was 8 pounds or more. It was bigger than any of the carp. I would really have liked to catch it! The bass were all a pound or more and deep bodied. Obviously, I didn’t have a fish finder, but I caught most of the fish at about 10 feet deep. As bonuses, I saw an osprey take a fish, saw 2 herds of elk on the way home without hitting any and saw a cougar cross the road in front of me. It was a great day. Hope we’re all soon there.
