We are doing the final preparations for our spring fishing trip to Powell. We will be heading down wednesday evening after work then launching first thing thursday morning out of bullfrog. We'll probably hit the moqui area then head to the north end to set camp for the weekend. Coming back Sunday mid day. Thats as much of a plan as we have. Thanks to all who have posted fishing reports. It sure is great to have all this information. If anyone is in the area feel free to stop and say hi, maybe we can tell ya whats working or not working for us. Just look for the boat in the pics below. We normally target stripers but with a new addition of a bow mount elec. trolling motor maybe we can change things up a little and target all species! I'm very excited to test out the new setup.

Little salt wash, thanks for coming by and giving me some ideas on the motor mount. Here are a couple pics of how the mount turned out.

I am also adding a couple pics of the new swimdeck mounted fillet table just because its cool. Thanks bruno for the pedestal info.

Clean install!!

Just returned from red canyon. The mudline was around Ticaboo when we got there Thursday morning. The lake came up a foot by Sunday morning, the mudline is now near the floating bathroom, the east side of the big bay is still fishable, as is popcorn and the back of red canyon. Not going to be for long though. Going to post a fishing report when I get a chance....

Dang, that stinks.

Just got back from Slick Rock to the San Juan for 3 days of fishing and the S/M and L/M are on fire right now. Larger fish up the San Juan. Best fishing was in the San Juan in the rock fields between Cha and Desha lots of L/M there, even a tourney going on that weekend but not much pressure down that far. Pressure came at the wash down station around 5:00 PM bad mistake on my part to leave at that time of day on a tourney weekend. Did not locate many striper schools to much fun whacking the other guys.

Just got back and thought I'd post a short report. The striper fishing is hot around moqui. Thursday we fished around with ned rigs which worked great in any color. We trolled a few places with little success. After catching a few stripers for bait we decided to hit the mouth of moqui. Boated 23 or so and headed to camp. The fillets from those fish weren't good so friday we searched around and caught some sm and a walleye. Around noon we found a willing school of stripers in 15 to 25 feet of water on the sloped bank up river of moqui wall and boated 101 that day. After filleting till 2 am we found these fish were much healthier so we went for round two saturday. Caught 124 and headed to camp at dark to fillet into the am hours again. This morning we slept in, packed up and drug our wore out butts home as i dont think we could thumb another fish if we had to. So 248 stripers whose fillets filled 16 1/2 gallon ziplocks and packed our coolers back to full for the ride home. Weather was great, fishing was awesome and the lake was beautiful as always. My body on the other hand is totally spent so I'd say the trip was a complete success. The new terrova w/ spot lock and my new fillet table addition is what made it all possible, so cool! Good luck everybody.20190504_202121.jpg20190503_200022.jpg

Great report. If you are willing please give me a little more detail on the HOT spot! How much further uplake from the mouth of Moqui? Same side of the lake? Different wall? There is a nice little square cove not too far up from Moqui that is a good striper spot.

Right now in the next report I will say that there is a hot spot further upstream from the mouth of the Canyon.

Thanks for the report.

I'll see if I can do one of those fancy map views for ys Wayne. I also took these pics of my graph when THE spot got turned on saturday evening. Could you explain what we might be seeing?20190504_184025.jpg20190504_195934.jpg20190504_200946.jpg

The diagonal red and blue lines are interference and should be discounted when looking for fish. The first screen shot is bubble plumes and interference. The random yellow masses/globs are fish which show up on the second and third pictures. You had a lot of stuff showing up on the graph.

I was wondering about the interference thing but it was only showing that stuff in one particularly small say 20-30' area then go away as i jogged around with the motor. As we jogged back to the same spot or the boat rotated around the motor it would come back.

That usually happens when the sonar signal bounces off the wall and then hits bottom before returning back to the sonar unit on the boat. When you see diagonal lines you know its time to get a new angle or location when looking for fish.
