I recently got a new Nitro bass boat and decided to name my boat, "The Word."
So I asked Pastor Manny Parks at Faith Bible Chapel in Page, AZ if he would like to spend time in The Word. Of course he said, "YES!" We then made arrangements to be in The Word on April 23, 2018 and take advantage of Last Chance.
We departed Wahweap Marina at 8:30am. Our target species were LMB, SMB, BC, and WE.
The fish were on fire as soon as we got to Last Chance. Manny was using a single tail Yamamoto salt impregnated grub (chartruese color) on a 1/4 ounce jig head. After a couple hours of watching him catch crappie like crazy, I finally changed the color of my jig to chartreuse and then I began catching crappie too. Chartruese grubs were the magic gadget.
The wind picked up around 1pm and interfered with our fishing. We needed to find a more sheltered place. We went into another side canyon in Last Chance and continued to catch more crappie. They seemed to be everywhere whether we fished deep (30 feet) or shallow (3 feet). Within a few hours, Manny had caught 9 crappie while I landed 3. All of them were big. We finally got into some smallmouth when we entered a narrow side canyon. Manny then got busy in The Word when he hooked into this smallmouth.
The wind continued to increase so we decided to leave Last Chance and go to Face Canyon. We caught more smallmouth in Face Canyon and 3 striped bass. The stripers ranged from 1 to 3 pounds and were in good condition. Manny also caught a walleye in a narrow slot canyon near the back of Face Canyon.
We stopped fishing at 5pm. Overall, we caught 30 fish and kept 20. The fish we kept consisted of 12 crappie, 3 stripers, 1 walleye, and 4 smallmouth. The other 10 we threw back were all smallmouth bass. Here is a picture of our catch for the day.
I discovered this cross on Lake Powell a while back. I do not know who put it there. I thought it would be appropriate to post a photo of it for this thread. It reminded me to be thankful for alot of things and especially the gift that He has allowed me to have to enjoy Lake Powell. (John 1:1) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Wishing everyone a wonderful day on the lake.
