South end smoke.

I was at the Page airport Friday and all the water tankers (6 of them) were sitting idle. Our pilot said there was a "battle" going on over who was going to fight the fire thus a stalemate. Don't know any facts but it sure sounds like bureaucracy run amuck. Chuck

$$$, priorities, and tactics. White sage fire is contained except for the portion that is about to hit a rock wall. Dragon Bravo has nearly 1000 firefighters and their strategy document says they are using indirect fire lines, which means they are clearing areas a long way from the fire which typically minimizes the need for aerial drops until hot spots approach the fire line, fire fighters, or structures. We saw the weather reports for smoke and haze before we came out on Sunday and so we did expect "haze". But my word! We lived downwind of the Cerro Grande (2001) and Las Conchas (2011) fires in New Mexico and this looked sickeningly familiar to us.

Anybody have an update on how thick the smoke was Wednesday night and how clear it might be today in Wahweap? NOAA forecast has been calling for it to clear up a bit but IDK if that is happening. Last weekend it made my eyes burn, can't be good to breath that.
