Our annual September trip this year was from September 16-23. We go every September without fail. I am not one to complain but this was the worst trip we have ever had for catching fish in over 15 years. We were fishing all the usual suspect areas from Last Chance up to near Dangling Rope with the emphasis on Rock Creek. We even went up to the Escalante for one day to see if that would change our luck. It did not. We tried every lure, bait and technique in our repertoire with very little luck. Lots of SMB smallies, some skinny stripers and a few walleyes plus the inevitable catfish off the stern of the HB. And this was after two absolutely fantastic fishing trips we had in the spring of 2025 in April & May. We had never caught so many fish of ALL species, so our hopes were high for this fall trip. Only to be disappointed. However, we did not see any diseased fish or green algae anywhere we went on this trip that have been reported elsewhere. We had great weather for the entire week so I really cannot complain. Plus the Lake Powell Challenge boats for some other style entertainment. It was interesting to see the change from old school deep V IO's to catamaran twin 400 HP outboard boats over the recent years. Anyhow we will be back in October and hope that that cooler water temperatures will change our luck. Water temps for us were around 78 just about everywhere went.
We had a very pleasant encounter with the beach bags crew and co-owners. On our first day we were disapointed to see our favorite beach near the entrance to Rock Creek taken by a HB with beach bags. We monitored the campsite and when we saw the HB leave we motored in with my wife fishing on the beach to hold the spot. Beach Bags showed up within 30 minutes to breakdown the bags. Not sure of the exact words we exchanged but the Beach Bags co-owner we spoke with was very pleasant and was all in favor of us taking the campsite over. I also learned that Beach Bags has a second bigger boat. A real nice one built in WA state with twin jet drives. We also learned that they have a total of about 800 bags and that they have been doing an average to 100 bag set ups a week over the summer season. Also they will be expanding to the North End with Ticaboo Tony running the show up there.
Back at the ramp we learned that Uplake Adventures now have THREE Axopar boats for charter. Two of the larger models and one smaller. They are sweet boats & I love to see them gliding across the waves & chop. All way above my price point unfortunately.
