Our family took advantage of the good weather and made a quick trip. We hit buoy 25 by 10:00 and quickly loaded the boat bait fishing for stripers
Unfortunately the majority were very malnourished. We played on the water and at camp the rest of the day and fished Rock Creek the following day.
SMB and an occasional LMBwere willing on a variety of lures in 10-30’. We tried targeting walleye with no success but did catch 1 nice crappie and continued to catch stripers on lures while fishing for bass

What do you use for bait for stripers?
I've been reading quite a bit about it, I've seen talk about anchovies, but that's it.

You can use frozen anchovies....but at Stix, Walmart or marina store...south end of lake and Page). I like to cut the ones I use for chum in thin slices and cast them around the outside of the boat. I then cut the bait 'chovies in fourths. I like the head as it stays on the hook better. Double the 'chovie onto the hook for better hold...they get soft quickly. You can also use a piece of striper. It will last longer by insuring the hook goes through the skin. I generally sie a 1/4 to 1/2 oz lead head jig for my bait hook. I know many folks don't use weight, just let it sink naturally. Good hunting! Chuck

We were using cut anchovies as described above at the wall but also caught stripers on crankbaits, double tail grubs and rattle traps while fishing for other species

Hi Jeff:
We were camped same place, same days. What about the thunderboomers?!?! We hammered the SMB bass, with occasional LMB and walleye as well. Nice crappie!
See ya soon...

Yeah the 2am surprise storm was exciting !
Can you give me any walleye tips ? I had a goose egg

Hey Jeff:

Various plastics bottom bounced at 20-30 feet in the shadows...with a piece of night crawler being the secret ingredient...Texas rigged senkos, double trail grubs, lighly weighted wacky rigged senkos all proved effective...

Was time of day a factor ?
Where were you in rock creek ? We were in the main arm most of the way at the back. We had our own (small) private island on the NE side. It’s probably underwater by now

Jeff:

Mid afternoon to dusk out-fished the morning, by a long shot. That hasn't always been the case...
We were camped in the second small cove on the east side when you first break into Rock Creek. The water was significantly lower than the last time we were there, eliminating several canyons in Rock Creek that last year afforded some excellent fishing. In one of those canyons, we woke one morning to 5 ewes and a class three ram which hung out on the redrock above our camp for 1/2 a day. Our Golden (usually very quiet) barked all night; she likely heard the sheep above our sheep that night....
