Quicksand??

It’s a real thing and no joke.

Davis Gulch in January, super-saturated sand for about 10 yards up the creek from waterline.

It’s not everywhere, just be aware and when you feel that ‘sinking feeling’ keep moving…don’t let it grab hold of your boot, that’s when things get serious FAST.

A paddle or walking stick can come in handy to help a stuck partner maneuver to firmer ground.

Its not the quicksand that kills people, its that they get stuck and end up dying of exposure or drowning in the cases where there is a tide that comes up. My kids used to have a ball playing in it and getting their feet stuck but if you ever got to the point of being stuck above your knees you might have a hard time getting out without help.

It is a myth that you will go completely under over your head in quicksand, it is denser that your body so you wont go clear under, only about waste deep.

I was looking for a camp spot for the houseboat in Halls and pulled up to what looked to be a great beach. I jumped off of the front of the cruiser and sunk up to my thighs. i was stuck in the mud good. Luckily i had the rail around my cuddy cabin to grab ahold of to pull myself back up but it was a workout for sure.

My photographer got stuck a few years back when we had low water on a winter Seadoo run with Bob. Of course, I grabbed a pic before I lent him a hand. I have some video but there's a bit of cussing and laughing, not sure I want him to get mad and quit quite yet! JRod Stuck.jpg
