Put in water at Stateline after driving from Mesquite around 9 am on Saturday. Plan was to explore Padre Bay area. I usually fish farther up the lake. Drove to the back of Kane Creek to Cookie Jar. Many beaches. Picked one and set up camp. There were fish boiling. Small stripers and gizzard shad. Be careful what you are throwing at. There were boils also farther out in the bay. Water temp was 64 to 66. Bass fishing was great. Caught over 30 on Sat. Took a while to find them. They were off the steep drop offs. Found shad down around 65 feet in the bay by Cookie Jar with a few fish and began jigging. Caught stripers till I said uncle on cleaning them. Great meal of brisket and sauteed veges on tortillas on Friday night with a great fire. Fish fry on Sat night with beer battered fish. Chilly at night but not unbearable. Had another fire on Sat night. Broke camp and headed in Sunday am. Stopped in Gunsight to check out. Last year it was on fire with jigging for stripers. Found the shad at 95 feet with stripers feeding from 50 to 75 feet. Jigged up about 25, once again calling it due to not wanting to clean them. Great time to be on the lake. No wake boats. Actually saw a few fishing boats. Saw an otter and bald eagle as a bonus. The stripers were in good shape. There were only a few skinny ones. No monsters but they fought well. Ned rig for the bass. Dark color. Water temp on Sun 63.5. Pics to follow.
Capt. out.
