Question of the day

Depends on how often you fish, when I was doing tournaments in college I changed every year. Now a days I'm usually every other year or when I can tell the line is getting old and brittle. If you notice you are breaking more lures off than normal it's time to put fresh line on.

Braided and fused lines last a long time. I've got some Spiderwire braid I've had on an old baitcaster for 20 years. It's still as strong as ever. I test it periodically. The Berkley Fireline I use on my spinning reels generally last three to six seasons depending on how many trips I make. I've found fluorocarbon when used as a main line will last at least a couple years unless I'm using techniques that put a lot of twist in it. I change out my fluorocarbon leaders on an as needed basis, usually after getting hung and breaking off several times. Since the mussels got in the lake I've found all my lines fray more requiring replacement a bit more often.

I have used many braids but most do not hold their color after some use. I especially like Suffix Advance 131 but I just can't see it above the water. My new go to braid is Spin-X by P-line. It's red and blue every three feet and very visible in both sun and cloudy conditions. The colors have held up very well, and there have been zero issues on my spinning reels. I do use the Spin-X Fluro leader and it works great as well. I used Kastking 13 strand braid earlier this year at Lake Powell, but it lost ALL of its Chartreuse color turning white in 5 days of fishing. I used the Spin-X braid at both Brownlee Reservoir and CJ Strike in Idaho this year with great results and no color fade.

I use p-line braid in white ( they call it crystal) -- this is the color I can see on top of the water the best --- I mainly fish double tail grubs -- the white line allows me to see when the grub hits the bottom or the decent slows down indicating a hit while falling. I might have to try the spin x listed above

Power Pro braid is an excellent choice. They offer red, yellow, white and green, I enjoy the White, been using it for 3+ seasons and its still good.
