On lake towing and boat retrieval contacts

Great replies. Ryan I had needed to update old contacts I had and plan. I travel up lake from Bullfrog and down to the San Juan by myself at times. My plan if needed is to text through the in reach to a Contact at home and have them call for services if it was non emergency. I will add the Executive services numbers to my list.
Bart, I have towing as part of my Boat US membership and insurance. I feel it’s a good idea to have a plan in place if you break down or have an emergency. There are great people on the lake willing to help but never want to take it for granted.
Thanks

That's what I use also. I have upgraded it since, but the basic towing add-on was originally something like $14. There were some limitations to that plan (only towed you to the nearest marina, for example) so I upgraded to unlimited, but don't remember the cost difference. I didn't want to be at Rainbow Bridge, with my truck/trailer in Bullfrog, and have them tow me to Antelope Point. Things may have changed, but that was an issue I remember.

Good to know how the tow insurance works. I’ve seen references on here, but never seen one of their boats on the lake. I’ve boated in Florida (boring) and they were a surprisingly common sight. I’ve always planned on enough food and water to hang a day if I have to, and call a friend to come get me. That might end up costing as much as a professional though…

@BartsPlace, I have the same package and have tried using them twice on Powell, both times unsuccessfully so I read their policy, called them on the phone and found that lake powell is an exception. You can get towed by Aramark and get reimbursed by boat US but I couldn't wait for them to come out of Wahweep to get us the next day and the cost was extreme, luckily we were able to get the motor running and finish our trip that time! They have to come from Wahweap I was told and to take us to Bullfrog was a long run for them and we were in the mouth of the SJ in the middle of the lake. I was disappointed to say the least but I still have the insurance and if I had to use them they will come get me for a hefty price. Just be aware it is NOT as easy as I had expected it to be. I had to relay through my InReach to my son who was talking to them on the phone trying to get a tow and give my location to them and it has to be when they are open and answering the phone. It will work but I'm not that patient I guess!

Good to hear a real world experience! I have also talked to them on the phone and was told to just contact Aramark and arrange the tow - like anyone else who breaks down. Then, afterward, BoatUS would reimburse the cost. Sorry to hear that didn't work in your case. Maybe I'll give them another call...

Knock on wood... ive only been broke down seriously once at lake powell all the way up at the end of last chance. Luckily I always have a gas trolling motor on my boat so 7-8 hours later we made it back to the boat ramp. Id rather use the money for a trolling motor than a tow but im also fortunate to have a bed and shelter on my boat.

How much is the Boat USA tow coverage @BartsPlace

Many standard insurance policies have towing coverage as well. I know it's offered with Progressive. But the coverage limit might not get you very far at Powell.

The other option is if you can, hitch a ride back to the marina with a passing boat and rent a blue top and tow yourself back.

It was nice of them to side tie u and help you on to your trailer. A lot of the tow boat captains will not do that for fear of damaging your boat. Nice boat BTW!!!
We gave them our profuse gratitude for all the help. And thanks for the boat complement - we sold the SeaRay last year. The breakdown (starter motor) motivated a change for us. We wanted to visit LP more, but were so tired of trailering it from New Mexico. The roads are rough and we've had our share of trailer breakdowns with both of our boats. Not fun. Thought about putting it into a slip, but availability was limited. Thought about storing, but decided to buy a houseboat.
