We pull up to Lake Powell on Saturday and immediately get stuck in wet red-clay sand/mud. I dug the van out and set the traction boards ... only to get stuck again :-/ Had to dig it out THREE TIMES to get to our lake-front camp.

Then, the outboard motor breaks and I can't get it started, but I at least found all the pieces. No cell reception so we have to drive 40 minutes to even call the local outboard mechanic. Luckily he was half a block away from us and had us fixed in no time, for $50, but NOW I have to figure out a way to get back WITHOUT getting stuck three times.

So, I try a slightly "better" route and I'm almost immediately buried up to my axles in sand. I dig it out and set the boards. I make it five feet and BAM. Stuck again. We estimate I dug that damn van out 12 MORE TIMES before we finally made it back to camp and the boat. The tires spinning on the traction boards actually melted holes in the boards, which I now get to replace.

FINALLY get the boat loaded with food/water etc only to notice that one of the local crows had taken a nice juicy crap all over my boat seat. Not on Brandie's seat ... on MINE. And I'm now starting to think these are messages from God or something telling me "DON'T GO BOATING TODAY." Naturally I blew it off and we opted to take a short ride, rather than a long, overnight ride.

So we're maybe 15 miles away from camp on the boat and, of course, my $70 Aussie hat gets blown overboard and, by the time we circled back around, it had sunk into the depths of Lake Powell.

I said, "That's it; I'm done." And we went back to camp to enjoy an entirely uneventful evening on the beach -- until I tripped and fell down onto my high-tech camp chair and broke it.
