Novel Ways To See The Lake

Rivergoer

Keeper of San Juan Secrets
Visiting Reflection Canyon mid-October (about 10 am on a Sunday morning) we were quite surprised to find we were not alone. Perched high above on slickrock viewpoint stood a hiker/photographer, complete with tripod. (Zoom in upper center of this pic)IMG_9197.jpeg

Assuming an overland trip via Hole In The Rock Rd, the drive is between 1.5-2.5 hrs followed by a 8-10 mile (one-way) hike to the spot where this guy is standing. Has anyone done the drive/hike-in to Reflection?

We got some pretty cool shots but it’d be really fun to see a pic of us from above meandering through Reflection in our Zodiac.

And…in the spirit of the thread title…another “way” to see the lake…couple of Piper Super Cub lookalikes, Legend Cubs near Last Chance. IMG_9210.jpegIMG_9212.jpeg

I've never hiked in via Hole in the Rock Road, but I have hiked up to the overlook from the lake. You usually can't really land anywhere to begin a hike at a lot of lake levels, but in Sept 2020 when the lake was at 3599, I found a place to tie off the boat. From there I scrambled up the rock (steep at first) and got to the overlook. With a little trial and error, it took about an hour.
