On 09/01 we motored from Bullfrog and found an awesome spot for the old “Beach House” in Warm Springs Canyon. It was hot with little breeze-- even in the afternoon. Inside of the HB read 102-103 at 5:00. It cooled down to the high 70’s by morning inside the HB --but sleeping topside made things tolerable.

No boils from Bullfrog up river to Warm Springs (About 15 miles). Fishing was slow along the banks and out 25’ but a few healthy SMB were caught. A few of the SMB were spitting up shad.

Went to Good Hope a few times / spent more time on the downriver side of the bay than the up-river side. Perhaps our timing was bad – but no boils were seen in the Bay though the size of the bay probably was working against us.

We did run into boils between buoy’s 114-116 (just downriver from the mouth of Good Hope). The time of day did not seem to matter. The boils came and went fast but with enough luck we scored several hours of boil fishing. The fish were packed with shad and all were like small footballs. Range 1.5lbs-3lbs.

I agree with another post that you have to be aggressive with the big motor or you will lose valuable chances. It was also well worth it to hit a spot that you saw a boil and drop spoons. We caught many a few minutes after they disappeared from the surface. Large Kastmasters gave us the weight we needed. Color didn’t matter.

It’s pretty cool for us to see the shad jumping out of the water in a boil – I’m sure the shad felt differently! Shad size varied from 1/2” to 1” (+/-)

Have fun! Hardly any traffic up river from Moki
