I went to early! The water temperature was between 44deg in the mornings and rose to 48 or 49deg by 3:00 pm. It cooled down way faster than it did warming up. I slept in my boat at a different location each night. One morning woke up with ice all over my boat and sleeping bag. I started at a point midway between Trachyte and Two Mile Canyons while working my way south. The first bites came at about 2:30 pm. My wife caught 3 nice smb. That was all for day one. Next day started from where we left off and worked down to Red Canyon. We caught 4 more smb. We then fished through Good Hope Bay to Moki Canyon. On that leg we caught 3 smb and our first walleye! The line broke while lifting it in the boat. Sunday we fished to Halls Crossing and went back home to sunny Arizona! Now I was really fishing for walleye but they were not biting. Sunday morning was the first time we caught a fish in the morning. All the others were caught in the afternoon. I tried a large variety of lures and depths. All fish were caught on Ned Rigs and a white tube. The white tube caught 2 smb over 3lbs. The others were 2 to 2.5 lbs. They were a blast to catch and very healthy. They were males which may have been starting to build nests. Saw a lot of stripper schools on Lowrance between 50 and 100 feet. The small mouth that were caught were all in the 30 foot range. When we checked out at the top the ramp. The person there said that no walleye had been caught by others and that we had caught more smb than others. Will try again when things warm up!
