Had a great fall trip. Got up to the Horn before noon on Thursday. While I was scouting for a campsite that would be out of Friday’s wind, @Chovyboy motored up and introduced himself. He invited me to share the sheltered cove and camp. I met The Old Hippy and H at the camp, set out ropes, and both boats went fishing their respective ways. I was fishing for crappie and ended up catching crappie, smallies, cats, walleye, and smaller stripers when reeling fast after my crappie run. All were on shelves next to where it dropped off to deeper water. I ended up fishing that same type of structure for all three days with a white single tail on a jig head big enough to get it down and then fished slowly. The crappie were on the bottom and hugging the rocks. I didn’t find any big schools but was able to get a few out of the small bunches. The fishing wasn’t lights out and I had to work for them but it was fun. About half the crappie were really nice with big shoulders, they made nice filets. Camping with Chovyboy, TOH, and H was a hoot! Small world; TOH was from a rival high school in west central Ohio. We ate at the same pizza joint and would down sled down Englewood dam. Camp fare was over the top, my compliments to the chef! Thanks, Chovy, the long nights were way more entertaining than camping solo. I’m glad I missed the fights between TOH and H though. @Dworwood and AB came up sat am and then they headed up above 2 mile. We met up again in the late afternoon and headed back to Bullfrog. Dave slipped up and then helped me load up. We had a good supper at the lodge and a BS session. Always nice to meet up with him and his crew. North end news: Both Chovy and I were able to call home and do the check ins when we were out in the channel straight out from the Horn. 2 bars on Verizon. They are finishing up road construction, still 2 stop lights on where you wish you could use speed and momentum. Dry cows on the range south of Hanksville, diesel and non- eth was 3.25 in Green River. The Loma boat inspection wasn’t happening on Sunday. The early warning signage for that was gone along the interstate. Shut-down for the winter? Tight lines.

The wife and I were camped in the small cut on the horn just around the corner from you in the small houseboat. We were targeting crappies and walleye. We fished from red canyon all the way up to the back of White. Took three days to find the walleye of any abundance. We had been running right past them. They were on the north bank a mile up from the horn and up around to across from four mile. Not the numbers of fish we usually get in November, but we did end up with 35 walleyes for the trip. Never did find the crappie, but did catch 5 while trolling for walleye. Had 50 stripers caught trolling for walleye, and a few sm bass. Catfishing behind the houseboat where I clean fish was the most consistent fishing. I caught around 20 from 1 pound or so up to 2 1/2 about as fast as you could get the line in the water the fourth night we were there. The trip to White was interesting. Not hard to get in there if you are careful and watch where you are going. Never caught anything but stripers, but they were good ones. Caught 6 or 7 and they were 23 to 24", fat and fought like freight trains. I guess were at least 6 pounds. Biggest ones I had caught in a while.
The stop lights on the last leg of the trip (Utah 276) were funny. We hit the first one around 11:30 P M just right out of the turn onto 276. I stopped and waited for it to turn green. After a couple minutes, I rolled through it on to the other side, it was red as well. Reminded me of the old Blazing Saddles movie were the outlaws and hoodlums were going to raid rock ridge and stopped out in the middle of the Desert for a toll booth. The next three, I just slowed down and checked for oncoming traffic. Never did see a green light on any of them? Never meet another car going either way all the way down to the lake on 276.
Water temp when we left on Sunday was 60 in GHB and 58 up by four mile. The water clarity was 4 to 5 feet in GHB up to four mile. From there it got a little murkier the further north you went. You had to go within a half a mile of Trachyte to get to muddy to fish.

Large stripers in White! I was tempted to go there last trip, but it didn't look like I could get that far.

It was not as hard to get in as it was four or five years ago. Just had to go slow and watch for shallow spots. Last time we were there you had to hit a little channel about 15 feet wide and 9 feet deep right at the mouth and once you were in there the water got deeper, up to 45 feet in places. This time there was a winding longer wider channel that was 50 feet wide and 14 feet deep. Once we got in there, the deepest water we found was 18 feet. If the water drops in the lake 14 feet it will leave a shallow pothole and a big mud flat.
The biggest striper I had ever caught was in four mile while crappie fishing five or so years ago. Got her on a small jig on an ultra-light pole. Weighed 6 - 10 and was 26" long. This fish was of average girth. The ones in white were fat like footballs. did not wiegh any of them but i'm sure they were at least 6. Wish I could have found the crappie and walleye in white. They were big as well last time. We were catching 15 - 16" crappie on 5" walleye crank baits.

@Flipper I wish you would have come over and introduced yourself, a friend told me after we got home that you were there and had seen us. I enjoy meeting good people on the water. Sounds like you had a pretty darn good trip. Maybe next time
I should have swung over and said high. I was going out early and coming back after dark. Wifes not overly social and doesn't like me to talk about what we are catching and where like it would make a difference in what we could catch.
Sounds like I should have brought a plate and fork.

We will be launching and heading north tomorrow early. First trip north since I was probably 10 yrs old and certainly have never been this late in the yr. Thank you all for the wealth of information, we are excited to try it this time of year. We will be camping somewhere in good hope and will be in a black and white crest pontoon. Hope to see and meet some of you this round.

We’re down here now fished 2 mile yesterday, did not do that well. The fish seem to be active from early am until about 10am then it dies off again till a bout 2 or 3. We caught more in bull frog , but all smaller fish. I’m staying around bullfrog the rest of the trip. It’s too far to commute up to 2 mile everyday. Hope we can find a decent school to spoon.

were you trolling around and bullfrog or only finding schools and spooning them?
