New Utah Boat Registration Requirement - Effective 7/1 - Applies to AZ launches as well

Just another tax on us IMO. I am a UT resident and already paid thru registration. But I didn't read that it wasn't necessary this year if you paid registration before July 1st. Oh well they got another $20 from me...and they happily took it.
I have been doing their test and printing the AIS form for years because tournament organizations required it. The bass tournament organizations were concerned about us having it because they didn't want one more hassle from the state.
I love Lake Powell and I love to fish so I will pay another fee, print another form and keep on fishing.
As far as quaggas and zebra muscles, yes they are messy, yes they cause problems and yes we want to keep them out of our lakes the best we can. But life does find a way.

Maybe this will help clear some of the confusion?

Agree with most, if not all, concerns about this regulation. It did start years ago.
My soapbox input for what it's worth.
If you own (3) boats that are at LP during different seasons of the year, WHY must all be certified separately? One owner!
Money grab from the park service as they are trying to buy(run) Aramark out of the park entirely

You have to register all three separately in your state?

I just paid the regular boat registration on my boat, they [the local DMV] were not aware they have ever collected the AIS fee. She said she got an email but still is not aware of the fee and my total did not change That being said my registration did not go down and I paid an extra $20 this year and probably for every year in the future. As many have said I don't mind paying if there was a positive result. The problem we have seen is finding somewhere to de con us in a hurry! I have had to travel 40 miles out of the way to have it done and I know people who have missed trips because they could not get it done before their scheduled trip date. I had taken the mussel-aware test earlier this year so I only needed to pay the fee and register my boat for the AIS program and now I'm waiting for the sticker to come. We will muddle through it in time I guess? It makes boating just a little harder and a lot easier to be a law breaker now and especially for you out of state people.
Keep smiling, Powell awaits us!

Just be grateful that Utah isn't enforcing their liquor laws...yet. Did you know it's illegal to drink alcohol anywhere IN the state of Utah that wasn't purchased FROM the state of Utah?

Let's keep this thread on topic. Thanks!

Would you like me to delete it?

We're good. Just trying to keep one topic to a thread. For our WW'ers, easily as popular as reading current threads is searching through past threads for specific information. When threads split into multiple topics, or switch to a different topic than is stated in the thread title, search results become messy and, in many cases, worthless.

1st post, been lurking for a while, Awesome site, thank you.
I did a search for inspection questions and landed here.
Our last Powell trip was 1995.
We are staying in Page 3rd week in August and will launch our 19' cc from either Wahweap or Stateline.
4 days on the water weather permitting.
I have completed the Utah mussel course and have the registration printed for the truck window.
Do I have to empty my insulated fish box with ice in it? it has a drain.
Should I clean my fish before pulling out?
Any help with inspection questions I may encounter would be greatly appreciated.

If your pulling the boat out every day, pull all your drain plugs. When you come up the ramp for inspection they usually ask if this your last day fishing. Just tell them you have x amount more days fishing and they will just take your bow number and look to see if the drain plugs are pulled. Your last day is when you have to clean and dry to get your inspection of the boat and all compartments before they tag and seal your boat and give you your inspection paper so your good to leave. It really helps to wipe down your boat after you come out of the water every day, so it's not a big task at the end of your trip.
There is a nice fish cleaning station between Wahweap and Stateline ramps to clean your fish after you pull your boat out. It can get busy at times so use your best guess on cleaning your fish on the lake or wait until you pull out.
