New Utah Boat Registration Requirement - Effective 7/1 - Applies to AZ launches as well

The Utah AIS certification is separate from NPS, and would be separate from AZ boating//inspection requirements.

We were stopped just outside the park boundary last July by Utah DWR who was specifically checking for the out of state registration. Which makes me think compliance with AIS and compliance with the registration are 2 different entities or at least different departments

So far I’m only miss the sticker since I did the rest in April 😎

Wyoming and Idaho have been doing it for years now. Washington started this year and you have to pay even if your launching in the ocean. So Utah has been using grants to pay for theirs. I guess they decided to join in like the rest of them.

IMO just a money grab. Utah also started not accepting out of state ohv registration a while back which led to other states doing same thing.

Next other states will start with the boats too. 👎
Not sure I agree with that. There are still AIS check stations around and new back in flush tanks are being put in at four additional lakes in the state. One has already been installed at Utah Lake State Park. Basically, it costs money to do these things and to make sure they are adequately manned. Granted, it's a royal pain to employ enough people to do the job, but it has to be done. Think about it...it only takes one knucklehead to ruin another lake. I wish everything were free, but it isn't.

Wyoming has a fee but not a test. I don’t like the fee but I hate the test as it’s written for Utah residents.

The only lake in Utah I use is Powell. I could not care less what Utah thinks the drying time is for a boat to go from Strawberry to Sand Hollow. And honestly I just ignore all the Utah (and Wyoming and Nebraska) rules anyway became there is no way for me to launch in Colorado without a Colorado decontamination and seal.

Robert,

The only real change here is the sticker, and an increase in the fee from $20 to $25. If your boat in the state of Utah the fee was collected (this year) by DMV. If you are out of state you pay it as part of the AIS certification, and the certification course is several years old.

Should not be a big impact
So I am confused now. We pay the AIS when registering in Co but I have never payed a Utah fee ?

And what is this money used for? I'm all in for stopping the mussel spread, I'm just trying to figure out how this is going to help.

Good morning, We have been going to Bullfrog for years now and have been using a boat that I am 1/3 owner of, although the registration only has one name on it. It was purchased in Idaho and is registered there but we live in California... Item number 1 says you must register the vessel in the state of your residence. That is not possible for us. Any ideas how this really works? Thanks. Dan

Click on the "see answers to common questions" link. It says the person with whom's name and address is on the registration is responsible for the registration in Utah, take the mussel test and pay the fee.

I can forward my email notice to you if you like. I just went on the website to try and find it, but as you and others have noted, it's still the previous ruling. They have not updated it yet.

I guess I'll launch at Wahweap for as long as I can again... Good luck enforcing a Utah law in Arizona.

On the water in Utah, yeah, that's another story. The wording of the actual law says "launch or operate..." Is Utah DNR actually out on the water?
