Just talking with someone about BIG houseboats and their transportation. The conversation went to trailers and BIG boats (120' long)
Seems there is a trailer that is 118' long and 18' wide with 48 tires and wheels that can haul a 120' houseboat weighing 350,000#
The trailer itself weighs 90.000# (That's 10K more than a loaded normal 18 wheeler!) Just the trailer!

Now let's think of the boat
At 120' long let's knock off 20' for decks front and back and we have a "house" 100' long and 22' wide That's 2200 square feet TIMES 3 decks and we have a "house" of 6600 square feet (rough estimate) floating at the dock.
What's the kinetic energy of that thing moving across the water at 15 kts?
Next stop? The Queen Mary?

I was just wondering what the largest and widest houseboat is at Lake Powell right now. Is the Crystal Angel the largest overall boat?

Imagine getting something that big stuck in some of the canyons on Powell. Planning required in all aspects of one this large.

When Big Dog first got to Powell I was working at Stateline. A few of us watched it come in. All wheels on the trailer were steerable. The transport truck blocked the boat while the assembly got done and then a standard launch truck and trailer took it over to the launch ramp. As the truck started backing down the ramp, the weight overcame the ability of the brakes to slow it. The truck started skidding backwards down the ramp. The driver laid on the horn and people started scurrying like ants. What a great driver he was. He would let off the brakes just long enough to get back to a trajectory that put the trailer into the water...spooky stuff.

That sounds like the 1 time I launched my Bayliner with my Subaru Impreza at Bullfrog. When I pulled it out days later, at the gas station a guy asked how it did on the passes. I told him “No Problem”. I’ll try to find the picture. Sq

Let's start with the proud diesel truck boasts-
My truck would tow it.
Well now, my V-10 gasser Ford F-450 service truck pulled 220,000 lbs. Even the trucker was amazed. lol

But back on Subject, the longest private boat that can be on Lake Powell is 75" long. Not sure about the width though

Day 2 Transport from Phoenix to Lake Powell

Published on May 23, 2017
Bravada Yachts contracted Blue Ribbon Tire to go with them for the transport of their houseboat from Phoenix to Lake Powell. Normally this would be a 275 mile trip, however ADOT routed us to Payson on SR 260 and US 60 to Springerville. Then on US 180 to US 191 to I-40 westbound to SR 77, BIA 15 and on to US 89 northbound to Lake Powell. The total miles going there ended up close to 820 miles one way.

This houseboat load was 142 feet long, 22 feet wide and nearly 16 feet high, weighing 173,000 pounds.

What about the Crystal Angel? I read on line it is 120' long. Is it still on Powell? Sq
I know that when I worked at the lake, it was asked why the rental fleet didn't go with the bigger version than the 75'er and that's what we were told. I was there when Bullfrog got their first 75'er. Maybe with the right provisions and enough money, bigger can be accepted. I don't know, just going on what I was told many years ago.

Maybe rules have changed since then too. I haven't heard either way.

I know either way, I couldn't afford the annual dues on a beast like that so I really don't follow the rules on them. haha
