I have a houseboat rental the 15-22nd and, unfortunately, my strong nephews cannot make the rescheduled date, which leaves four old guys on the boat who aren't physically able to dig 4 three foot deep anchor holes to properly beach/secure the houseboat. Does anyone know if there is someone that I can hire to provide this service to get this done? We're leaving Wahweep early on the 16th for Rock Creek Bay. Please advise, thanks!

I was thinking that, surely, there must be someone in Page with their own boat who could use the money, that would follow our houseboat to our spot in Rock Creek, anchor it, then fish the rest of the day with some good cash in their pocket; a win/win for everyone.

Wayne is right, big boulders are the key to your success. Do you know how far back into rock creek you are going? What time are you leaving the dock?

I am sure there is someone out there. I will take a look and see who I can find. May 16? What time?

Technically, no one who does not have a super special permit can "work ON the lake' so you'd need a local to do it as a favor and maybe you later do them a favor ;)

We plan to leave at 8 AM on the 16th to Rock Creek Canyon from the Wahweep boat rentals marina. Thanks for your assistance!
If you are willing to leave at daybreak, we probably can help you. That means you need your instruction and check list done on the afternoon of the 15th. That's what we are doing. I have 7 fishermen onboard so I know we are leaving at daybreak. Also, not going too far back into Rock Creek would help. There is a wonderful protected beach about 1 1/2 miles in on the left. No rocks but good digging, if there is such a thing. Let me know. You cam pm me if you want. Friendship is another option.

I have never dug an anchor in over 44 years at Powell. When big rocks weren't available we would use 4' long pointed 1 1/2 inch rebar stakes driven thru the anchor ring slanted away from the boat. We would double pin and anchor on the windward side. Worked well.

Instead of tying on to a good size rock ty the rope around a good size Tammie (shrub), the roots are usually as deep as the shrub/tree is tall. (Tammies are usually weaker the closer they are to the water. )

We do have a pre-board on the afternoon of the 15th, so we could leave at daybreak on the 16th. Yes, the beach you're talking about is probably our destination. I appreciate the offer to help, but I do not expect anyone to do this for free; I want to pay someone, which is why I suggested someone in Page with a boat that needs the money and food on the table. Thanks!

We've tied up to large boulders for most of the 30+ years we've been on the lake. In fact the only time we've ever come loose at night is when we were anchored in sand. If you can separate the anchor from the rope, leave the anchors on board as well. Create a large slip knot and throw the loop around the LARGE boulders, you can easily enlarge the loop while getting it set around the bottom of your large boulders, then tighten it up once it's in place.

We've also found that putting a alpine butterfly loop in the anchor line 1/2 - 2/3 of the way toward the houseboat cleat and using it as sort of a manual come along makes tightening the ropes much easier.

Don't worry about money just let me know if you want the help. We will be on the dock on the 15th as well so we can talk then.

I want to thank everyone for your ideas and support; it turns out that one of my nephews is now able to come on our adventure, so that we're covered for the anchoring, but I feel compelled to help people in Page who have been hard hit by loss of jobs. If someone can share a local food bank contact information, I will donate $250 to it. I know that just $1 will provide 3 meals at a food bank, so I invite my fellow fisherman who are grateful to use the wondrous Lake Powell to donate $5-$10 to the food bank to express our gratitude for those less fortunate.

I'm in for 10 bucks. Will give it to you Friday afternoon. Very thoughtful of you.
