Took a friend from NM with me for a quick trip before the weekend crowds. Still plenty of traffic. Got on the water later than planned due to a flat tire on the boat trailer, so headed straight to Navajo Canyon. Despite fighting the boat wakes, we had fantasic fishing for stripers. While I was taking a pic of Anthonys first fish, I lost a pole due to not putting it in a rod holder. Hope the striper isn't still dragging it around. When we emptied our bag of anchovies, we headed up to Padre bay for bass. We fished the west cliff face so we could have some shade. Tore up the smallmouth along there. Got my second walleye on a tube. Anthony had never fished dropshot before. He's hooked now. He used a shad colored ribbon tail worm. We found a secluded cove in the back of Gunsite to camp. After tieing off the boat, I walked the bank with a buzzbait and picked up 10 LMB. The next morning, we hit Navajo again with our last bag of chovies and enjoyed the calm water and wide open fishing again.We were done by the time boats started showing up. The straits were pretty rough. Was glad I was in the Gulfstream and not my bassboat. It handles the water very well. Hit the cleaning station and worked the new cordless rapala knife for an hour. That was money well spent.

Right inside the mouth on the left side of the entrance. The first 150yds of canyon wall seems to be holding. Right where you see the rock jutting out forming a tiny cut was money for us the last 2 trips.

Great pictures and report! Thank you! I had a 78 Gulfstream back in the day. She was a hot rod (for me) and a dry boat. Handled rough water really well. Tight lines

i think that school of fish has been at the mouth of Navaho for the last 4 seasons!
Next time skip the chovy and just fish cut striper. Fillet one of your fish, cut into strips and chunks. Chum the chunks, fish the strips and you are set.
Choys stink and cut bait stays on your hook WAY BETTER!

If you leave the skin on, they last on the hook forever but you'll need a sharp knife to get the skin off your hook

Yea, always skin on. It is tough as leather and yea I've had to cut it off my hook!

I've had good luck with striper chunks in the past, but this last trip I couldn't get a nibble on them. I switched over to anchovies and the fishing lit up instantly. It's always a good idea to have a bag of chovies on hand.

We planned on going to cut bait when we ran out of chovies, but we were ready to try for something different by that time. The fish were so aggressive, the only times we would loose our bait was if we struck too soon trying to get the lip. Last year when we hit that spot, we only caught 1 striper. Couldn't figure them out. Went to our other spot, same thing. Fished for green bass instead.
