Ok, so Sandi and I just got off the lake having fished Monday through Thursday this last week of March and not really knowing what to expect this time of year, we came away really happy. We glamped at Bullfrog in our camper and fished uplake each day. We launched each day from the Executive ramp and practically had it to ourselves; that part was easy-peasy. We trolled a lot; mainly into and out of the canyons looking for off-colored water in the backs of the canyons and increasing water temperatures. Our lures of choice were Pointer X-Deep divers in Aurora Black and Pearl Yellow. We also trolled Wally Diver Deep Divers in Pearl Yellow. In the backs of the canyons in the shallow water we cast the same lures along with some Rattle Traps. We also slow-fished with Ned Rigs along the banks in the backs of the canyons.
At the end of the day we wound up keeping thirty stripers varying from fat and healthy to semi-malnourished; we tossed the emaciated ones back into the food chain. Surprisingly, to me at least, we caught a number of stripers on Ned Rigs in three or four feet of water just a few feet off the bank. We also caught smallmouth and walleyes while trolling, so I guess you never really do know what your going to reel in on this lake. We also came away with five walleyes; Sandi caught a dandy 23 incher. She also caught a whopper, and I mean a whopper! crappie. We also caught a hand full of smallmouth while casting along the banks. Fish tacos for everyone.
We enjoyed spectacular weather and it was almost like fishing on a private lake. We saw very few other boats. We also saw a couple of beavers right in the back of Cedar Canyon. What in the world do they eat out there? There ain't a tree to gnaw on for miles.
Disclaimer: This is my first shot at posting photos, so be gentle with me if I screwed it up. Just provide a little guidance so I'll do it right next time.
