Labor Day trip 8/28 thru 9/1 short report

My wife and I drove up from Tucson Wednesday evening just in time to pick up our Sea Ray before they locked the gate at Antelope Recreation Storage. Stocked up ice and a few last minute items from Safeway. We then got a nap in the near empty Wahweap parking lot. Launched early Thursday morning and headed up lake. Ended up finding a nice little spot across the main channel from Wetherill Canyon. We don't normally camp on or near the main channel but this had nice protection from all the boat traffic and the dreaded tour boats. The weather was perfect, water temps wonderful. Ended up not moving from there until Sunday to head home. Had a few spot shoppers come by and look but that was about it. Always sad to go but we will be back in early October.

Nice! I love finding those unexpected spots. We were near you in Friendship cove, had a nice protected spot as well and the best thing shade on our boat by 1:30! I was gladly surprised by lack of boats this far up for Labor Day weekend. But going back to APM on Sunday thru the Narrows was hellish to say the least. Next time I’m avoiding that stretch till past 2pm or get through it before 10am.

Your arrival style sounds so similar to mine through the years. The best way to go! However, I remember a time when we got busted for having the gall to catnap in the unused corner of that selfsame parking lot--after a 10 hour drive and 3 hours before sunrise on a moonless morning. If that wasn't bad enough, a member on this board piled it on, talking about respecting rules. Crazy...anyway, glad you had premium conditions.
