Knockers Update

I know @Rainbowbridge needed this update. I was on the Lake Powell Houseboating Facebook page yesterday and a salvage firm has been contracted to deal with this houseboat. Someone with better computer skills can probably copy and paste the article for all to read. A salvage company, Seamor Marine. has been contracted to deal with this boat. They sent a remote control rover down to survey the situation and come up with a game plan. They did mention the difficulties encountered with the busy location and flash floods clouding up the water. They state it is 200 meters down and wedged on a ledge.
This is from their website - Next steps of the project will happen in late February and early March, when Cross’s team will return to retrieve the watercraft dangling from the Knocker, secure lines, pump out fuel, and recover small items from the lake bottom.
The boat will remain submerged and become a reef.

This is not reporting. This is self congratulatory advertising copy written by the company that built the Remotely Operated Underwater Vehicle.

The linked story is dated 1/7/23, so "February or March" has come and gone. Their headline states "Luxury Houseboat Recovery From the Bottom of Lake Powell", and then in the body of the text they say that nothing is being recovered. It "will remain a reef".

We all know that, even at full pool, the water depth is nowhere near 200 meters even at the dam, and back in January the water was shallower than it is now. 200 meters equals 656 feet! And as to "4 to 6 foot waves", we all know that no work boat is going to Mile 11 under those conditions.

I could go on, but I don't want to sound like a troll.

Thanks Bill for keeping us abreast of sinking Knockers.

I do agree with others here that the rather self serving Seamor article was indeed a........ bust.....

Perhaps the next article will be a bit more titillating.

(Bart's hand is currently hovering over the 'eject adolescents' button.....;))

But on a serious note, how do you pump out fuel from 200'+ down? What a job! The fishing boat that sank off the San Juans was only in 100', and that job was fraught with issues. And what does 'secure lines' mean? Like it's going anywhere? Recover small items from the lake bottom? This isn't the Titanic, IMHO. That iPhone is toast. Oh well.....

It just goes to show Knockers always receive stand up attention.....

The Heart of Lake Powell necklace if found could pay for the recovery, but I think it was taken out in the pilot's pocket.
