Keeper of San Juan Secrets
Arrived Friday around noon and checked out Hansen, forgotten, warm springs, and cedar canyons we caught one LM in warm springs. Got to meet TR in cedar canyon and he was kind enough to give us a few spots to try and even went north with us the next morning but the wind was a little too much and made fishing a little harder than it is fun to fish in. We ended up with around a dozen SM on Saturday mostly caught in Halls that evening. Had the pleasure of meeting squirrel and Goldie at the camp ground and had a nice visit with them Saturday evening. Saw the trash tracker up north doing their usual good deeds as they cleaned up the shore in several places that we witnessed. Got up Sunday and headed South, hit lake canyon, slick rock and a couple of coves off the main channel all the time watching for boils. Passed PowellBride in the main channel as they were headed to Halls marina. Ended up at the mouth of the SJ and fished there for an hour before heading back to BF to load up and go home. Ended up with around 25 SM and not a single striper. ALL the fishermen we talked to were struggling catching fish. We threw whopper ploppers early with no success, kind of disappointed we couldn’t make them work for us this trip. Ned rigs caught most of the fish but the LM and a few SM were caught on a strike king crank bait deep diver like Wayne uses to troll with. We trolled out of the back of several canyons but no luck this time. We tried spooning the deep fish but again no luck. It is always a good trip when we can fish LP but this trip was the slowest trip of the year for me as far as fishing, no boils were spotted and we looked over a lot of water. This was a great trip as usual and I was lucky enough to meet some wordlings from this site that have given much advice and insight to many of us with less experience and knowledge. To them I say thank you for the help and pointers. It has helped me a bunch to break down this huge body of water.
