JFR - Lake Powell Trip Journal and Story - August 2025

Great story as usual! A little less drama than some of your trips? Maybe you do have it figured out.
Thanks! Maybe there was a little less drama on this trip, although that first night out the windstorm was really something... And no, I don't have anything figured out, as those who know me will tell you. I just act like I know what I'm doing, and half the time I'm right.

Oh my what a story!!I
You have a way with words from "cheerfully pessimistic" to "strangled and dismantled" by .."malevolent forces from a golf club in Florida" to describe what happened to the diminished services available at Lake Powell.
However, I would agree with "disconnect with Earth and reconnect with stars" as the reason we all love Lake Powell so much.

Real utensils and plates and a few other changes I noticed hinted to a more ( unified isn’t the right word but I can’t come up with the right word) group?😁. I’m sure the wind was drama for you and your mates but you all handled it like pros, different outcome for many people in that situation! I missed some of the nuances of your group in this trip. Still loved the story and your skill at telling it!

Thanks--I appreciate the kind feedback! It is certainly true that the best thing about Lake Powell is that we can disconnect from the Earth for at least a few days... As for the idea of being cheerfully pessimistic, that's probably better than being glumly optimistic, but that's potentially debatable... :)

I appreciate your comments! Yes, real utensils suggest a higher level of organization, almost approaching "civilized." It was a small and experienced group this year, which I kind of like, but I do enjoy the chaos of a big group where things are out of control. It's a better story that way!
