I approach my fishing alot like I do reloading and hunting, except the USMC ruined me on hunting . So, for the last year, every time I have gone fishing. I have used the same lures usually storm lures by Rapala. The only difference was on was uv and the other was not. I tried this little experiment because I read an article published by an opthomaligist (sp) who explained lures colors at different water depths.

The results are pretty interesting in my opinion. The uv lures consistently out preformed on all species of fish except Kokanee. The lakes that I fished were lake powell, the flaming gorge, blue mesa, eleven mile, bear lake, willard bay, and american falls. The lures were fished side by side on down riggers at the same depth and distance from the boat. The water temps ranges from 38 to 74 degrees. The depths were from 5 ft to 165 ft deep. The trolling speeds were from 1.1 mph to 3.0 mph.

The walleye, stripers, wipers, and lake trout went for the uv colors at about a 10:1 ratio. Rainbow and cutthroat were about 5:1 ratio. The small mouth bass were about a 2:1 ratio. Then surprisingly the channel cats behind the bullfrog marina really like the uv flatfish at a speed of 1 mph. I have never caught catfish trolling before, except there. The Kokanee went for anything pink except for the occasional single. These results are from about 600 hrs on the water.

I am just curious if anyone else has noticed similar results. For those of you, who think that I am deep diving this. You need to read a little bit about precision reloading. The two are really similar except the fish are a thinking moving target.

I have a LED 12V "light box" that I "re-charge" my UV lures inside of for kokanee. I'm still trying to determine if it really helps?

Havalina, I find that info amazing! Ive been doing a little uv testing myself and I believe you just sealed the deal for me. I for one really appreciate that info you've compiled. Just so you know, Yes I'm way too deep into reloading and precision long range stuff myself. Lol. Glad to know its not just me! Thanks again!
