Hello everyone, this is my first post on the site. The wife and i are thinking of heading up to LP from Las Vegas in September and wanted to know which marina would be best to go out of for some great fishing and scenery. Although Wahweap is closer, is there any benefit to towing my boat to Bullfrog? We are planning on renting a houseboat and making that basecamp and using the fishing boat to explore.

Thanks for any response.....

Welcome aboard DesertFish.

Definitely Wahweap if you are renting a houseboat. A better selection and quality of boats. Hope you have a great trip.

Cliff makes a good point, the chances of reserving a houseboat for September 2019 is slim to none.

I’d go from Bullfrog. North end of the lake is a bit less crowded, and you can choose to go up lake or down from Bullfrog. From Wahweap everyone has to go the same direction.

I have only been to Bullfrog and farther north about 4 times, south end more than a hundred. IMHO, in September you don't need to worry about crowds much, they really thin out after Labor Day. And if scenery is a high priority, south end is more majestic, canyons more captivating.

Only because you are coming from Vegas I would say southend. Fairly direct 265 miles versus a lot further. Don't really know how far it is to Bullfrog but the 2 times I went from Page I went to Halls and it was a long way. At least 100 miles. PowellBride is right, almost everyone leaving Wahweap is heading up lake but with the Castle Rock Cut open you can avoid some rough waters and get to mile marker 12 pretty fast. YOU really need to provide more information. Experience with houseboats, oh and by the way do you already have the hb reserved? How well do you know Powell? What are you fishing for, Sight seeing? and on and on. If you already have the hb then you already know which marina you wil pick it up from. I love the discount rates for late off season from Aramark but I don't know what else to try to help you with.

October is a good time to be on Lake Powell. ( Except for last year) The water is still warm and the day temps are perfect for exploring and fishing.

I don't get it. Everyone knows that the South end is more majestic and captivating than the North end.

Ya'll wouldn't be trying that San Juan trick on us dumb Southenders,...would ya? No fish, no scenery, just downright scary so stay away. I know you wouldn't be doing that now....would ya?
All stories are true. I personally make it a point to visit the San Juan every September to valid all the claims. Think I’ll even make a trip in July so that I can report back to keep all you south-Enders safe.

My first 15 years were all north end, I couldn’t wait to experience the south end. I even had my husband talked into considering retirement in Page. Ironically we don’t like the south end. I’ll respectfully disagree with Trix regarding the more majestic canyons. To me the biggest drawback on the south is you have to go 20-25 miles up lake to begin to get out of the traffic and rough water caused by the boat traffic. From Bullfrog you can reach multiple canyons just 4 miles to the north and 10 to the south.
