Thanks for all of the replies on the Padre Butte short cut!
What water level will it take for the Gunsight Butte short cut from From Gunsight Bay
to Padre Bay to be passable?

According to the water database page, that will definitely not happen this year.....


Gunsite Pass Cut-Off 3685.00 is minimum elevation

There's a shortcut that goes from Gunsite into Padre that we used last September. The water was at 3612. If I remember correctly there was about 5 feet of water through it. Right now at 3605 it might not be doable.

That's the one I was thinking about. It was sketchy last June at 3614.

The pass Lake Bum is talking about is deeper into Gun Site and Padre and takes 3685' to be useable....it's very narrow and has sheer faced wall on both sides. The one you are asking about at 3605' is outside the points of Gun Site and Padre, it's actually in Padre Bay thus providing access to all the canyons of Padre Bay. The cut Lake Bum mentioned is about a mile further into the canyons.
