GHB 10/25/24

Took a short solo trip. Read that striper fishing was good past the horn. Reports were accurate. Either trolling flicker shad or casting (when over school) worked well. Boats in my vicinity were all catching fish. All the stripers were in great condition. I did best just outside the mouth of fourmile and to the south a bit but seemed others were doing well all the way to twomile. That was as far as I went.
Once finished striper fishing, hunted for walleye for several hours with no success. Difficult to use jigs tipped with worms due to swarming bluegills. Even when trying to fish deeper was difficult to get down through the bluegills and small bass. Fished quite a few points in GHB that hold walleye in spring nothing.
Smallmouth are plentiful and fun.
Bass tourney going on but only 19 boats so not really a factor. Talked to one group. They were having trouble finding bigger fish. I think there first day total for 5 fish was just over 9 lbs.
Fished for stripers some late in day in Bullfrog bay. Caught several but condition of these fish not as good as up north (not really skinny but not as fat).

Water temp: 70-72 deg
Little wind
Air temp in low 70's I think.
No clouds
Trolling speed 3.5 mph
Boaters using both main ramp and executive services ramp. Tourney guys using main ramp.

I did not realize the ferry is running. Kind of fun to watch them dock that thing.

great report headed down 11/6/23 what is that blue lure in your photo? and did it catch fish?
It caught most the fish (although it is what I started with). If you look closely at the picture with the fish you can see it is a Berkley bad shad 7. When I got to the dock at the end of the day, there was a couple with a really old boat (I think they said 1959). They asked what I was catching the fish on so I cut this lure off my line and gave it to them. When I got home I went online to buy more. Guess what. I don't think it is offered anymore. I found 2 on ebay. Oh well. Really I think any deeper diving shad like crankbait will work just fine. Good luck on your trip!
