Fuel question?

I’m sure it’s been asked a lot! Lol my question is how much does a generator run a day? 75 ft houseboat beginning of June. Thanks from the newbie
 
I think the biggest variable is the size of the generator. Most of the houseboat generators run at a single speed, so while load will make some difference, in my experience, it isn't huge. I figure between 1 - 2 gallons/hour.

When I run the generator does it run other stuff as well? Like charging the batts while the ac is on?

The way our houseboat is set up is we have an inverter that allows some (not all) of the AC consuming products on the boat to run without the generator. So some AC plugs are live. Our fridge and freezer run off it. And our toy tank fuel pump. We can't run the microwave, hot water heater, air conditioner, dish washer, washer dryer off the inverter.

When we start the generator, the whole boat switches over to AC. All the appliances and outlets become live. And our battery charger kicks in (which is a pretty big draw).

Our houseboat does not have solar, and has all residential appliances, so there is a pretty big draw on the inverter. In order to keep our batteries charged, we need to run a generator 6 - 8 hours per day.

I do bring two Yamaha 2000 inverter style generators, and if we are only concerned with charging the houseboat batteries, we will often do it with those. They are much more fuel efficient than the built in generator (which I think is 24KW).
