Engine oil thoughts for our toys...

yes, much cheaper today than in 1982 even without adjusting for inflation. I miss the round cardboard cans with the metal top, they just looked cool I guess
Remember using a flat screw driver to open 'em on both sides? My Dad showed me how to do two openings on one side of the top, and one on the other to vent....It was kinda fun to hit the screwdriver 'just right' and twist.

This is one my my favorite and most hated topics..."mixed emotions", by definition...lol. There are as many opinions as there are comments, it seems. One major factor, of course, is filters as well. For my purposes I always try to use WIX or Napa Gold (same thing and same last few digits of part numbers). Oh yes, there's other great ones out there as well.
For what it is worth, I was digging into this with regard to oil options for Mercruiser 170HP diesels....Volkswagen engines.
Come to find out virtually no one has more stringent oil requirements than Volkswagen where diesels are concerned and in combination with low-sulfur diesel (as is the only option these days).
FINALLY found the attached chart, which I found helpful. Maybe it will be of some use to other readers? Hope so. No big deal.
Changing propellers... I also concur with the post recommending bobistheoilguy.com. Been referencing that site for many years. A boatload (pun intended) of good intel on there.

Well, there's one more 'opinion'...lol.

Lastly, it goes without saying to run ethanol-free ("E0", usually the blue-colored pump handle) gasoline whenever possible.

Happy Boating,

The Oracle
