To anyone who may be at Good Hope Bay this next Saturday (oct 14) at 10:30 AM, please get some spectacular photos of the Total Solar Eclipse. It will be passing almost directly over you. With the canyon walls and overall Powell beauty, should be awesome. Unfortunately, I can't be there, but I would love to see someone post some photos of it.
Oh, and maybe a fishing report to go along with them!

It's actually an Annular Solar Eclipse - a little bit different. Part of the sun remains visible throughout the event. At the apex, if you're in the right place, you'll see a ring of fire.

just to add to this great event, encourage anyone/everyone
watching the eclipse has a good set of glasses.
from our research during the last eclipse we watched in 2017.
cheapo’s from china may not provide adequate safety.
many optometrists/eye doc’s will have safety approved glasses
at a little higher cost, but it’s still not much. we got ours easily.
went up the salmon river for the last eclipse, & in our wagonhammer
campground near north fork, we were the only campers w/glasses.
we thought that was very strange, but once word went around, everyone
was at our campsite sharing our two glasses. they got passed around
quickly.

May 20,2012. Buddy and I were there fishing for a few days. Beached the HB ( 59 ft Discovery) on the east side of Halls. Knew the eclipse was coming - but forgot when? Bout 6:15 pm, catching a bunch of nice smb and lmb (and a beer or 2!), the light looked a little fuzzy?? Like a thin overcast just showed up???
Duh - realized it had started and rushed back to the Discovery. Got out the only cameras we had - he with a phone and my Canon slr.
Up to the upper deck, set up on the wet bar, used dark green welding glass and began snapping pics (and downing beers!!. Had to fool with the timing; finally hand held the trigger for a half to full second. Took a few to get any decent resolution, but took a couple dozen in all.
That event was centered over Page, so we were about 50 miles off center= bout 90% full.
Not the best at posting pics but here goes!!PICT0018.jpgPICT0020.JPGPICT0021.JPGPICT0022.JPGPICT0024.JPGPICT0026.JPGPICT0034.JPG

one last toss out, a tad tardy……our utah,
washington county, usu extention office is
offering eclipse glasses, free of charge.
wouldn’t be surprised if other extension offices
do the same.
happy viewing to all. the bullfrog area is a superb
location, & we considered it. but we’ll be camping on
top of mt.dutton, @ 10.5k msl, basically centered on
”the really big show”.

Wonder if the song 'A RING OF FIIIRE A RING OF FIRE' was about the eclipse, or some one eating some ghost peppers😁
And was that Johny Cash
I had to look, it was about LOVE, oh Johny😊

The annular eclipse was a first for us. This is a photo through my spotting scope with a phoneSkope attachment on the rim just north of Tapestry Wall. Cool ride, great company but really slow fishing. 34DF8331-83FC-4AE7-8C10-1DFB1E4F993D.jpeg

that is a PRO pic!! great job. did you edit this via your phone s/w w/filtering, or is this “as it was”?
perfect timing on your part, thanx for posting.

and from your “fstop” icon photo, guessing
you‘re a photography guru.
yours & tiff’s pics - congrats to all involved.

No editing on the pic, just straight off the I-phone, through my spotting scope. I used to be a news photographer/chief photographer at the CBS affiliate in SLC. But about 12 yrs ago I switched to the NBC affiliate.

We were quite surprised at how many people drove out to the overlook to view the eclipse. We were in a group of about 15. But there were easily another 40-50 out as well. It made our annual boat winterization trip more enjoyable.
