Kids had a great time fishing stripers at the dam. Fresh chovies were the key as yesterday's thawed and refrozen bait didn't work nearly as well as the fresh bag from Walmart. Lots of boats and most people seemed to be catching fish throwing over the barricade and letting it sit.

Best for us was an anchovie head on circle hook with a small split shot 18" above it. It would sink slow and usually didn't sink all the way down before a striper would pick it up. Fished hooked themselves and we lost very few. Caught some using jig heads but not nearly as many. Also tried striper eyeballs which stay on the hook much better than an anchovie. Those worked once in awhile but were best combined with an anchovie. At least when the fish stole your anchovie off the jig hook you still had bait.

Fish are skinny but not emaciated. They tasted good but the flesh didn't seem as firm as healthier fish. Anyone else notice that?

We had a great trip and even managed to shoot some video for the one armed anglers and amputees. One Hand Striper Fishing

Did some fly fishing for bass and crappie and got one smallie while targeting a crappie on a nest. Got that crappie to chase the fly a dozen times but never hooked it. Another great trip in the books.

Great report and video. Thanks for sharing that with us. Fishing success is great at the dam and other spots on Lake Powell's main channel.
