Dear Wayne (and any other fellow Lake Powell goers),
I am heading to Lake Powell in late June, I go almost yearly but have never targeted crappie. What depth should I be looking for them at (I was told they go deep by late June)? Also any other tips for fishing for crappie in late June?

The crappie will remain above the thermocline as it gets hotter. I would not fish deeper than 30 feet. The deepest the thermocline gets on Powell in the summertime is about 40 feet. Most fish have spawned by late June so food is more plentiful and the catch rate decreases that time of year. The key to finding craappie is to look for a lot of submerged brush. I suggest fishing for the crappie the same way as in April and May, but expect the catch rate to be lower in late June.
