On October 15, I was idling through the Castle Rock Cut and noticed these 2 coyotes on the shoreline. They were on the Antelope Island side of the cut. I thought they wanted to get a drink, but they kept walking along the shoreline and were not spooked by the boat traffic. I stopped to take this picture and kept going.
I was headed to the east wall of Padre Bay to fish for smallmouth. The fishing there was slowwww. I caught 1 smallmouth in 4 hours of effort between 1300-1700 hours.
On my way back to Wahweap Marina, I passed through the Castle Rock Cut again. I noticed some people fishing in the wakeless area in the cut. They had caught a fish and then threw their fish on the bank. As soon as the fish hit the ground, a coyote came running in, picked up the fish in its mouth, and then ran off with the fish. These coyotes knew how to catch fish! The fishermen waved as I passed by and I proceeded to Stateline launch ramp.
As I leave Stateline launch ramp, a coyote runs out of the Wahweap RV Park, crosses the road in front of me, and is headed to the fish cleaning station. I was also headed to the fish cleaning station. Watching how these coyotes fish was amazing. I did not let that coyote catch the fish I spent 4 hours trying to get. My smallmouth ended up making 2 fish sandwiches when I got home. I think I'm gonna stop fishing and start predator calling until the water temp drops into the 50's and spooning for stripers begins.
