Counting Shad

@wayne gustaveson wrote in his weekly report: "We are still counting shad so the final tally is not yet available." So what if you loose your place when counting, do you have to start over? All kidding aside, how is this done?

We capture shad in small meter nets and large trawling nets over the summer months. Sampling sites are Wahweap, San Juan, Bullfrog and Good Hope. We capture from 0 to over a thousand in a net depending on shad abundance. Once we have the numbers tallied, we compare them from year to year to see how the numbers differ. We have shad number data beginning in 1976 until the present day. I can post a picture and graph next week when back at work and if I have time. I have a lot of catching up to do.
