we've never been very successful catching crayfish (for bait) at Powell. Does anyone have suggestions as to where and what they go for?

We caught 20+ last night near the top of the lake. I had never seen that many at Powell before. We just walked the shore immediately surrounding camp and nabbed them with our bare hands using a headlamp to spot them.

Thanks for help! We are camping in Escalante this coming week and will look. We've set traps in the past and have not been successful for some reason.

You are not successful due to the intense nature of your competitors that seek crayfish. All the shore dwelling fish (sunfish, bass, catfish, etc) really like to eat crayfish. If you want to catch crayfish the only chance of doing so is to turn over rocks at night, or move into the tributary streams where lake fish don't enter due to natural barriers.
