Hello all,

My parents and I decided to head to BF last weekend in search for boils but it was a bit of an unsuccessful trip. We got to BF Friday night and setup camp for the next two days. We launched from BF at 7 am with calm and clear waters and headed north towards moqui canyon. Since we don't have a fishfinder on our boat yet ;), we fished near the canyon walls and rocky sections with everything you can think of without success. We talked to another angler, who was very gracious to give us some worms, and said had been on the lake for two days and only caught a striper and a catfish. We finally hooked a striper near the entrance of the canyon and another two in a random canyon near BF as well as two feisty catfish. Later on the day we headed back towards BF bay and fished the walls across the marina. We hooked some smallies on top water before we called it a day.

The following day we launched at 7 am once again and decided to try our luck on HC bay. As we first entered the canyon, we saw a few jumpers and quickly headed in that direction. We turned off the engine and approached the area quietly to see if they would come up again. Once there, we noticed a few fish jumping around us but couldn't get them to bite anything. I tried spoons from 1 oz to 3/8s and some top water but got no hits; my dad wanted to try his luck with chovies and dint get any bites either. We then headed to moqui once again and got skunked there as well. We called it a day around 2 pm and headed back home to Colorado.

All things considered, a weekend on Powell is always a good weekend. We already are planing on going back for some redemption once the water cools down but until then, I will live vicariously through your posts ✌

The first large striper boil was reported yesterday in the southern lake main channel. It started at 9 AM and stayed up for more than 90 minutes. So it begins. Expect more boil reports to pop up in the next two weeks. Water temperature dropping down to the lower 70s is the biggest reason for the start of boil season.

Hey there, I hope those worms helped you get those catfish. They weren’t helping me very much! It was nice to meet y’all briefly.
