The pressure finally got to me. Got to Bullfrog Friday about 11am. Loaded camp and gear and headed to the north end for the weekend.
Our days are numbered from Bullfrog. The north ramp is only 3 sections of concrete from high and dry. The main ramp may be useable for small fishing boats like a few years ago, but I don’t know for how long if we don’t get some snowpack.
Fishing was slow for us. Drove clear to the horn. Water at the horn was only 14 ft deep and muddy. 41degrees on surface.
We trolled from dungees island to horn nothing. Fished the bay from main channel to red canyon. The fish were stacked in 45 ft to 60 feet, could not get down to them trolling. So we spooned around the bay for a couple of hours, could not get them to turn on.
Got up Saturday and fished Ned rigs, no love, switched to watermelon chartreuse curly tail jigs. Picked up a few smallies and largemouth. Had to fish them really slow in 15 to 25 ft of water, bite was really light.
Decided to troll again across the channel from ticaboo up to mm127. Caught enough stripers to make the trip, but had a hard time. The deepest running lures we took were 8 xd strike king in sexy shad. The fish in the main channel around mm127 were 45 to 60 ft deep.
Had a friend that had his down riggers set at 45 ft and caught over 100 Friday. I left my down riggers home , thinking we’d get them spooning, it just didn’t work for us. Great trip anyway. It’s not about numbers, I’m just reporting the facts. Weather was gorgeous, a little cold at night. Tight lines!

Thanks Hack! Still trying to get down this weekend but we will see. Installed some new seats I built this weekend, put in new batteries but then noticed one of the ports/cords on my 330D charger wasn’t even reading anything. Trouble shot everything, I think it’s the charger itself. Going on ten years old now… not sure I can get one ordered and installed by Friday.

Dang, I hate when my boat stuff is messed up. I did some work on mine before this trip and it ran great. Hope you make it down. My buddy that caught a bunch said they found them by your island at mm127. They caught most spooning right there. He found them trolling. I thought he’d caught them all trolling.

Drove by Harvey Gap and Rifle Gap , about 40 crazy
8 inches of ice on Sunset Lake next to Mesa Lakes Lodge. We caught 40ish in 3 hrs. 5 anglers.
Fisherman on thin ice about 40 % open water on Harvey , guys thinking about going on Rifle clear ice way to much open water for me and 45 degree temperature in the afternoon noon . I feel more safe going alone on a boat to Lake Powell and better fishing .

I have that same model battery charger. Mine did that too at one point. It turned out that the battery was bad. When my brother had our boat at his house he let the batteries get too low, and the charger wouldn't activate unless he put a mechanical charger on the battery to get it up past 6-8 volts. Then this charger would recognize the battery.

The lights won’t even recognize the port/cord. I put two brand new batteries in and switched the good port from one to another, it’s the charger. Won’t even come on at all, usually, and like you said it will flash red if the battery is too low or not readable. It won’t even do that. I opened it up, throughout the years a bit of water had gotten inside, I’m guessing that’s the problem.

Might just go without use of a trolling motor this week.

After having it for so long, I was sure you definately knew the operation of it,,,, thought I would throw that in, just in case.👍

Thanks for the report. I'm hoping the Bullfrog ramp will be usable for all of us and not high and dry this Spring! It has been a good winter to work on the boat. I've replaced steering hydraulic seals and motor lift seals as well. I guess that's what happens when your boat is 31 years old!

It's not looking good with the moisture we've received so far this year. I love Flaming Gorge, but it's always a number 2 to Powell.
