How is the water clarity planning a trip the 12 of October for 10 Days hopto see people around hallscrossing CAMP GroundsThanks for the report! Now I wish I would have gone up to GH, last time I tried it was horrible with debris so I didn’t even try. Boy am I glad you did though, I bet the boat traffic will increase from now on. You deserved a good boil for taking the chance!

So I’ve come to the conclusion that yesterday was a fluke. I didn’t change much from today and caught them all over. We caught one right in the middle of Bullfrog Bay in 100’ of water so we knew today would be a good day. Then we went to the mouth of Halls and found a giant school on the fish finder and the kid caught a bunch. He did great. They quit so I took the two boys to the Halls crossing Marina for ice cream. After that we went to Lake Canyon and fished a few of the normal “favorites” and we caught them all day. Ended up with about 20, inbetween all of the “jumping in to cool off” that we did. It’s now 8:00 and we planned to be gone by 10 this morning but we don’t get to make it down that often so we stayed until Father Time said you have to he get off and get the kids home in time for school tomorrow. I figured they can sleep the 4 hours home, it’s worth it.There are some times when you fish it is almost magical how they will bite anything you put in front of them. And then there are other times when you go back to the same spot, the fish are there because you can even see them just like you did the time before, but they won't touch anything at all and you might just get lucky by snagging one of them...
Great to hear you and the kids had a great day. I know even Stripers can have lock jaw some days, and make a guy feel like he don't know anything about fishing, but the next day that can all change for the good. Awesome turn around, glad you saved some Shad, and put smiles on them young guys and your own facesSo I’ve come to the conclusion that yesterday was a fluke. Ona side note, I can’t thank you all enough. One of the best things about this site, that I have lived for the 20+ years that I have been on here, is that there is always help if they have it. Seriously, thanks for helping. It means the world to me. I promise to pass it along. Everyone have a great week!!!!!
We didn’t see one boil!!! It was crazy! That was what I really wanted to get the kiddos into but they had a blast either way.Great to hear you and the kids had a great day. Did you ever see any boils?
Man that’s great! So happy to hear!!Just got back from Powell 2 days ago I had the same experience as hookncook just bad fishing caught 3 in 3 days… worst lake Powell fishing I have ever experienced 2 positives though I was able to land a very nice 7.5 pound channel cat! I also was able to read this post and called my family who is still down there put them on Hookncooks hole at halls and they got 25 stripers today which was awesome to hear! I also saw 0 boils the entire time.
I wonder if the water is too warm. We were in the Escalante 2nd to last week of July. Saw boils from the entrance of the Escalante as far back as Clear Creek during the 1st two days of our trip and then nothing. Right spot wrong time, wrong spot, right time. Who knows? Definitely marked them in the same areas hanging out out at 40-60ft. Water temp was 84-86 degrees. Boils lasted for no longer than 30 seconds. They’d disappear for a few minutes and reappear always out of casting range. Caught a few with a super long cast and a whopper plopper. One double on one cast. That was a first and very cool!Just got back from Powell 2 days ago I had the same experience as hookncook just bad fishing caught 3 in 3 days… worst lake Powell fishing I have ever experienced 2 positives though I was able to land a very nice 7.5 pound channel cat! Maybe that’s why they call it “fishing” and not “catching”.Not sure about the to warm theory, August has all ways been great boils as long as there is Shad. Maybe to many Shad, and they don't have to boil, the For the ones that you see, there are thousands doing the same thing under the surface. Just another theory in another step to try and figure them out. The only thing I have figured out, is no one has ever really figured them out yet![]()
There was a guy on here talking about Walleye this spring, and he was saying he was going to GHB, and he knew he could catch Walleye there. I thought right then, I hope you don't jinx your self. Then he never posted again, about his trip. I make it a habit to tell people I take that there are never any guarantees in fishingMaybe that’s why they call it “fishing” and not “catching”.
The moment I’ve ever thought I had it figured out with any type of fishing, I’m usually humbled the next time out.
The psyche of a fish is perplexing and always alluring.
Yep he’ll find some. There was a guy on here talking about Walleye this spring, and he was saying he was going to GHB, and he knew he could catch Walleye there. Our friend Hotwheels, is down there now fishing, and he said North of Bullfrog he seen very few boils, he was headed South today to the Rincon. I was thinking today after messaging him, that he is pretty darn amazing, that he never let having wheels get in his way, and usually all ways catches his share. And my money is on him finding boils before he comes home![]()
I will be there for my week, this weekend, and last year Hall's was great, thanks for the info. I will be PMing youdisclaimer- no fishing knowledge of powell, wake surfers...
Was just in bullfrog bay for a week, not more than 10 minutes towards halls, parked on the west side of the bay. We were in a small bay with a sandy beach but at the point of the bay, was a rocky point with a very steep drop off into deep, clear, cold, not cold but drastically different than the top 3 feet. Every night and morning the point would light up with boils. There were two very nice, really nice bass boats that would visit morning and dusk everyday. Pretty sure this wasn't their first visit to the lake. They would troll through on repeat and would also stop and throw what looked like swim bait. They were killing it. No idea how many fish they caught a day but they were constantly lifting something into the boat. We had one guy walk to the point and throw into that area and even with all the help and reading on how to catch stripers we have done he didn't even get a bite. He didn't go back again because he ran into the biggest rattlesnake we have ever seen cruising through the rocks. Didn't rattle, gave no warning, keep that locked away when you're out there. Not one to give away fishing spots but this one is no secret, as it was literally a driver, 7 iron, easy wedge to bouncing a golf ball off the fuel dock at bullfrog. Even the local otter tried to get in on the fun one evening. If you want to know more pm me.
