Arrived Sun at noon, set up camp, got the boat in the slip. It was hot! Rode around loking for surface action.....none. Monday am at first light found a school and spooned up 18 stripers. As the sun rose the fish went deeper. Found them on shelves at 45 to 50 ft. On the fish finder there is a line of fish horizontally at 42 ft. They are not stripers so don't spend time on them. I think they are gizzard shad . Did I mention it was hot?
Continued hunting stripers around BF area 3 miles up lake and 5 .miles south. When located I could get one or two and then they moved. Swam some more!
Tuesday same as monday. Went into Halls Bay and found big schools past the island. on the east side. Careful navigating back there. Catch 1 or 2 and then move to find more.
Wed am first light saw my first and only boil in the slips next to Nail Bender. The problem was I was on the outside of the tire line! Started trolling near the mouth of BF Bay by the red and green buoys east side following the contour map in 50 to 35 ft. I had done the same yesterday as well and piicked up the biggest fish of the trip. Thundersticks at 3.5 mph worked early am. At the mouth of Halls around the first turn the east side is a big shelf and they were stacked in there. I had the best 2 hours speed reeling a castmaster through them vertically. I caught 38.
I met Scott and family and waved them over to help catch fish. They had not caught any. In several days. They learned to speed reel and found some success.
I filleted those that I caught and tried smallmouth fishing. That was tough. They weren't hitting nothing..
The weather report was looking bad for northern utah so I left a day early. It was a great trip with very few people or boats . Water was calm Aramark staff were very helpful but understaffed it appears. Thanks for the info Ky Kev . I did manage to catch fish during a full moon. But had to work to get 60 plus. All were healthy chunks.
