With the "Pandemic" still brewing, we had to let the fishing boat stay home and braved the trip down to Red Canyon via Blue Notch. The road wasnt too bad from what I can remember, but certainly long and dusty! My 3 kids and I fished from our Kayaks and did as good as expected when fishing from a wind driven kayak moving in all directions!!! We ended up catching lots of SMB as usual, numbers and size seem to be about par compared to the last few years. LMB seemed to be above par as we did catch about 25+ the biggest being 3.5 but having 3 other different LMB over 4lb give us the infamous jump and spit treatment. GREEN SUNFISH and BLUEGILL seemed to be more abundant this year as they added excitement to the mixed bag. CATFISH were the real surprise this year as we hooked many of the ugly buggers while fishing for everything else! Always interesting pulling in a cat that sucked up your 4" Yamamoto curly tail. CRAPPIE were a usual tough catch for us as we only pulled 2 from the deep. We finally stumbled into a few STRIPED BASS on the last evening, landing one that went over 5lbs, but also hooked numerous 10" feisty fellas! WALLEYE were the tough ones for us to find but my youngest was able to pull one up and complete the Grandslam from a kayak! Was able to note that most SMB had a crawdad in its belly and the big Striper was full of eggs and had a 1" shad in his gut. Great trip overall, but really missed the boat!!
