Black Friday at Lone Rock

My family and I normally try and get away from people on Black Friday. Typically we do a daytrip to Blue Notch, but we've started alternating in a camp trip to the South Lake for a little warmth before we get snowed in at home in SW Colorado. This year we camped on the beach at Lone Rock. I cast out some chicken hearts Friday evening from the beach with no success. Saturday morning I tried again while we prepped our kayaks and ended up with a small smallmouth. I put it on a stringer hoping to add a friend or 10. My son and I trolled Shad Rap's from our kayaks along the broken rock bank on the opposite side of the bay for a couple of hours without a bite from anything but the bottom. As a result I released my little buddy from the stringer and we went to town for some shopping. There was a cabin cruiser trolling the bay Friday evening, but I never saw them land anything before they anchored for the night. I've been skunked very few times on Powell, and this was pretty close, but the weather was nice and we didn't get stuck in the sand(a fear I held quietly in the back of my mind).

Go to the far end of lone rock , where it turns from sand to chunk rock. Wayne Sent me their years ago when I asked where I could catch fish from a float tube.

That far side away from the beach is where I’ve been catching them but it’s been spotty. The shad have been hanging out there for months. With as many shad as I’ve seen I’m surprised the fish aren't all there. And the weird thing is when I cleaned those fish I didn’t find any shad in them. Puzzling.
