Hey all,

I've been lurking at all the posts on the lake status and reading all the excitement has gotten my parents and I eager for our annual Powell trip. Our Powell tradition is fairly young and the lack of lake knowledge is somewhat thrilling.

We are planning on taking a trip around May 27th and was wondering if any of you can recommend which side to visit. We've had more success in the south end but with all of the craziness going around, we are considering visiting bullfrog this time. From what I've been reading, SM are responding well to anglers and stripers have gone MIA; however, my parents really like stripers and hope to come back home with a cooler full of them. Will stripers be active by then or should be change our approach and target other species? Any recommendations on where to find them? Will the water color affect fishing up north?

Thank you all!

You have 10 days to study the reports that will now flow in since the lake opened today. My guess is that stripers will become more active and we will have a better idea where to go to find them after we get more information. I think Bullfrog will not be as busy as Wahweap was this morning but that is yet to be determined. I will get back to you before your trip. I already got one report of stripers hitting bait in Wahweap Bay. There will be more to come. WG

Wayne, Amy and I caught a Healthy Striper just trolling through the cut, three weeks ago. So they’re definitely out there!
