Are there good camping spots in Rock Creek?

We would like to go up to Rock Creek and camp a few days and explore the area. Anyone been up that way from Wahweap lately?

I figure with the kids back in school the lake is quieting down and it would be a good time to explore farther north. We just got back from the lake yesterday, the previous three days were relatively calm on the lake.
Not in Rock Creek but we went up lake from Wahweap yesterday, pretty dead round here but not completely vacant.

Beach Bags and a number of boats are busy on the radio this morning locking down campsites. Plenty of room, the search is part of the adventure.

I can tell you this much about boat activity on the north end of the lake. During the week of 8-18 to 8-24, I was up and down the lake from Bullfrog to Trachyte Canyon, camped in three different places. Very few boats on the water anywhere north of Moqui, and almost all of those were already camped somewhere, mostly in Hansen, Forgotten, or Knowles. One or two in Crystal. Maybe one in Cedar. I saw just one single shore camp on the long beaches at the south end of Good Hope Bay. Another boat parked on a sandbar outside of Ticaboo Canyon. But north of Ticaboo in the 10 miles up to Trachyte, I saw no boats anywhere. Zero. Better not break down up there, because nobody's coming anytime soon...

Full trip report coming...

Rock Creek has plenty of sand in the main branch (the one on the left going in) but I'd suggest sending out a scout boat or jet ski to find and hold a spot before you venture all the way to the back where the beaches are. Middle Rock Creek has just one spot well back in that narrow canyon , it's on the left. Dry Rock Creek (on the right going in) has a few places but little sand, if beach is what you want. A little up from Rock Creek is Dungeon, on the other side of the lake. It has quite a few sandy areas but can be shallow and exposed to the wind. Chuck

My favorite is the first one on the West side of the entrance right after the floating potty. It's an awesome spot, small beach but a big drop off. The views are stunning and you can't really see another boat parked from that canyon, it's kind of a dog leg left as you enter. These photos were from last July there at about 3586 elevation.

I'm with JFR too, not much traffic past Last Chance going up lake. If you explore lesser traveled canyons and you break down it might be a long while before you see someone
