Had planned to go to goodhope with the kid. Mark, the 9 year old an avid fisherman who has read Wayne's book twice since he received it last November for his birthday, is so hyper I can use him to generate electricity, he dreams, eats, talks fishing 24/7. LP has become his favorite lake( we have been only twice last year , bullfrog/moqui).

The original plan was to chase walleye in goodhope, stripers and small mouth where we can find them. If the mudline is affecting that part of the lake, I will be needing a back-up plan in order to let these young fishermen some action.

What do the more experienced fishermen recommend?

We were up in GHB last Thursday-Sunday, and the lake came up a foot. The river channel was pretty muddy when we got up there, and when we left, it was getting pretty muddy down to the bathroom. I would suspect it is very muddy now that the runoff is really starting to rock and roll....

Any guess if Knowles and Forgotten will be muddy by May 15 ?

The side canyons do not get as muddy as the main channel. You can still find fish in Red, Blue Notch, Pop Corn, Ticaboo and others. Yon can also go to Knowles and Forgotten and do well. Camping at the Rincon and fishing in Iceberg and Slick Rock is not a bad choice either.

Tough decisions - Good Luck.

Thanks Wayne. We have all day Saturday, and half day sunday to enjoy being out there, I can go up on Saturday and check out the side canyons.
It is all for the little ones fishing this weekend.

Red was still fishable but pretty stained, Ticaboo was pure mud, popcorn was very stained but fishable. But that was last week, I imagine everything in GHB, including the side canyons (which are not very big at this low water level) will be very muddy. But the narrower ones downstream will be fine;)

My rule is if you can see your propellor, you are good. When it gets so muddy your lower unit disapears into the mud after a few inches, find some clearer water!!!

I think Knowles and Forgotten will be comparable for campsites at this lake level (3572), and neither will be great. Knowles you can go about a mile to the end, and maybe the last half mile has a pretty good share of sloping and rocky (not ideal) landing sites, not exactly beaches, but workable in a pinch. The very end (maybe the last 800 feet or so) might give you a nicer beach or two, but small.

In Forgotten, you can go a little farther, maybe a mile and a half. There's going to be a potential sloping (and probably rocky) beach toward the mouth on the right, maybe a quarter mile in. After that, your best best is going to be at the very end of the right fork, where you might get lucky with a small but more level and sandy beach here or there.

Both canyons do a whole lot better with the campsites once you get closer to 3600 and above. But May 15 we'll be closer to 3580...

I wonder if there’s any off main channel near there?

Well the handful of small coves across from the mouth of Knowles (just south of Tapestry Wall) have some potential, but more for houseboats wanting to crash a narrow strip of sand, and usually at higher levels (more like 3600+). Cedar Canyon might work, but it's going to be something like Knowles. There are a couple of coves just to the south of the mouth of Cedar that have some potential at this lake level, but again not much shore area. A couple of small inlets just outside of Warm Springs Canyon (to the north) might work, and possibly one or two sites toward the end of Warm Springs itself, but those disappear as the lake goes up....but might be good at 3580-90 or so, not sure...

Thanks I will check them out .

Well. Trued north, pretty busy and water is muddy, one nice stripper on top water lure, a couple of small ones, almost as big as the lure. We jigged, ned-it, chummed, bait fished. Tried what i know, which is not much. Beautiful day at that which is priceless with the kids.

May try south of bullfrog tomorrow or anything i can try in half a day. Any suggestions appreciated.

I would go back north and hit Hansen and maybe Moqui

We caught several at the rock pole just inside the mouth of Moki on the right side a couple weeks ago. Caught a couple of walleye towards the back of Moki that same morning.

The rock pole looked like a parking lot late afternoon. Might try moqui again in a little bit, also thought of lake canyon, but not sure. Tried the mouth of hansen, went deeper but lots of boats and campers.

We stopped by Moki on our way back to bullfrog last Sunday. It was about 11:00, and there were a half dozen other boats there. We caught a bunch of striper on cut up stripers, about half were health enough to filet(I am picky). The more people fishing , the more chum...it was pretty fun! Best to use you i pilot, no need to anchor....
