Two boats four fishermen headed up lake at 12:30 pm on Saturday. It was a bit windy. Rough ride up. Set up camp in Rock Creek. Fished Rock Creek that evening for a couple hours. Smallmouths were eager to play. Sunday fished different spots all the way up to Oak. Great day. Very little wind. Water temp was 72 in the mornings up to 74 in the eves on main lake. Couple spots in back of coves were 75.5. Ned rigs, hula Grubs jigs - shad shape worms or fuzzy dice on drop shot all in watermelon or green pumpkin did the trick. Hula grub was by far the best bait. 4” or 5” on 3/8 or even 1/2 oz heads for deeper water. Fish were from 2-20 feet. Bigger fish were deeper. Broken rock. Didn’t do well on cliff banks. Each boat caught around 80 fish day 1. Tried topwater early with little success.

Day two wind was very light. Morning Fished main channel between Gregory Butte and Rock Creek. Same lures. Mixed in a Crankbait on 20’ deep flats. Caught a few. Came back to camp for lunch and a clean up dip in the water. Little 3/4 lb stripers were getting after the shad in a cove by camp. Caught a few on topwater. Kurashi and white or clear whopper plopper. Trolled in the afternoon with a few SM bass. Total fish count was around 70 fish per boat.

90% of the fish were SM. With the balance being LM and two nice walleyes. Had a fish dinner Monday night. Heard about the fungus but neither boat noticed anything on the fish. Did catch a few the had battle wounds from previously getting caught.

Weather was wonderful. Full moon was spectacular and could have been a reason we didn’t catch more. Can’t wait to get back in the spring.
