I'm heading to the lake on Friday for 4 days. Plan on fishing the Good Hope area as well as the San Juan. The weather forecast looks phenomenal! If any of you fished Good Hope this past weekend can you tell me where the mud line is currently? Did anyone make it into White's Canyon? I'm wondering if you can get across form Trachyte and Striper City into White's and Farley at this water level? thanks for any info.

It's only 4 feet lower than when I was there in March. Should be plenty of water to get into White. I was able to get in there 11 feet lower than this last year.

I was in good hope this weekend. The water finally turned green at good hope. We only made it as far as blue notch/ red, so no info on mud line past red. Good luck.

Sm weren't for us but I believe the wind played a major roll in that. We did get into some striper sat eve and did pretty good once we coaxed them into feeding.View attachment 2032

So, to see where Lance was fishing, in Google Earth type in "N37 43.409 W110 27.708" leaving out the space between the N and 37, and between W and 110 (from the GPS co-ordinates on the fishfinder pic). Leave a space where the degree symbol is and just skip the seconds (") mark. You'll see why the stripers were there!

Fished Good Hope Saturday and Sunday. Weather and wind were great both days as expected. We targeted banks for smallies. Water temp ranged from 54-59. We fished from the bathroom to Scorup both days, water got stained near castle butte and water temp raised a couple degrees. Saturday the water was more stained and down to a couple feet right in the main bay from castle butte to Scorup but Sunday it was more like 4-5 feet. We caught about 80 fish a day, mostly smallies ofcourse but all a good average size over 12 inch, only caught two walleye? Waiting on them to really turn on and no Crappie this time. We trolled along side castle butte during lunch Saturday and caught three Stripers in about fifteen minutes. We trolled a Wally diver and a lucky craft deep dive pointer in the aurora black color and the lucky craft hooked up all three times.

Never made it up past Scorup so can’t comment on water clarity past there, red, and the coves even at the stained water line are clearer. Talked to some guys at the fish cleaning station who made it up to two mile and they said water clarity was stained but not crazy dirty yet. Andrew, me and hopefully my dad are heading back down Friday, can’t wait.

95% of fish were on soft plastics, Ned rig, single tail grub and hula, orange and cinnamon worked great. Other 5% was on a craw crank, bomber creek craw 4a model.

I figured someone would notice that

Looks like a trolling pattern on the graph. What lures were best?
Best for us was bright colored flicker minnows. Tried numerous others but these seemed to catch faster than anything else. Definately found out why the lures only cost $4. This was the first time I've used them and not impressed, bent and broke a couple hooks and noticed some had crooked bills.

Defective baits are so annoying. My fishing time is valuable and I don't want to spend it putting the lures back together and teaching them how to swim. I was going to try some flicker shad due to the recent comments. Thanks so much for your report.

I have caught walleye and smallmouth there...always did better on the stripers on the other side of the channel....

You didn't even say hi, Preston. Must've missed each other. I couldn't really see past the fishfinder and my pole once we started catching! We camped in blue notch sat. We were the boat doing crazy circles at the mouth of the canyon sat eve and sun morning. I tried keeping an eye out for ya but i guess that didn't work.

Sorry Lance, once i get fishing i have to remind myself to even eat so I guess i get distracted ha. Come to think of it I think I saw your boat at the mouth of blue notch as we were leaving sat night back down to Stanton around 7:45?

Wow, y'all left late, but I'm sure we were still there. We left with just enough light to idle into blue notch and fillet in the dark. I am the same way, one track mind....

Preston, on another note my buddy was filming our trip as well. Before we started catching stripers he kept saying, i guess this will be a boating lake powell video, not fishing lake powell. I'm excited to see what comes of the footage he got, although I'm sure it wont be as good as yours. We couldn't catch a bass to save our lives. I have always thought I was a better striper fisherman than smallmouth and this trip proved it after hearing your numbers. We actually caught a few on friday but none on sat. In all fairness my boat isn't set up properly to beat the banks like needed for sm, but we can kill the stripers and any meat in the freezer makes me happy. I will gladly post a video or at least pics when he sends them to me.
